KEOTA- Eithel Ann Shemanski, age 81 of Keota, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Maplewood Manor in Keota. Eithel was born November 10, 1932, near Martinsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Harley and Florence (Heninger) Dickson. She attended country school, Martinsburg School and graduated from Hedrick High School in 1950. She was united in marriage to Stanley John Shemanski on November 29, 1958, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield, Iowa. The couple lived in Keota and Eithel worked at Maplewood Manor and in Iowa City for 16 years, retiring in 1995. Eithel was a member of Holy Trinity Parish- St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota and enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, crocheting, cooking for Stanley and the boys and being with her grandchildren. Survivors include four sons: Gary (Kathy) of Iowa City, Jim (Michele) of Pella, Rick (Karen) of Solon and Dave (Cari) of Keota; 6 grandchildren: Amy, Nikki, Shelby, Kelsey, Grace and Ben and two great grandchildren: Madison and Mckenzie. She was preceded by her parents and husband Stanley in March of 2009. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Polishville Community Center with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be in the Polishville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the Polishville Community Center. A memorial fund has been established for the Polishville Community Center. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Eithel and her family.
