Williamsburg-Eileen F. Hakeman was born April 6, 1941, the daughter of Ben and Olive (Khrounek) Popelka. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1959. Eileen was united in marriage to Arlen Hakeman on June 19, 1961, in Belle Plaine. She worked at the Landmark for 16 years and later helped sorting corn at Holden’s. Eileen enjoyed being a mother to their children and helping Arlen on the farm, (especially driving the tractors). She enjoyed decorating cakes, being outside and caring for her flowers. Eileen died on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Colonial Manor in Amana at the age of 83 years.
She is survived by her son, Terry (Lynell O’Connor) of Williamsburg; a daughter, Janet Phipps of Grinnell; grandchildren, Emily Hakeman, Matthew Hakeman, Kayley Martin, Marie Ryerson and Ken Phipps; siblings, Harry Popelka of Vinton, Dennis Popelka of Jacksonville, NC and Sue Klenk of Cedar Rapids. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2023 and three infant sons.
Celebration of life service will be 10:00 am on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Burial will be at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Newhall.
