Edwin L. Roberts

Edwin L. Roberts, 75, of Mansfield, IL for the past eight years and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died on Friday, April 15, 2016. A celebration of life service will be Saturday, May 21 at 2 p.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until service time on the 21st. Ed was born in Ottumwa, IA, the son of Glenn and Virginia (Longton) Roberts. She passed three days after his birth and Ed was raised by his grandparents, Norton and Alta Roberts. Ed married Donna Dee Wolf in Mt. Pleasant, IA, in 1991. Surviving is his wife; two daughters from a previous marriage, Debbie (Tera) Roberts and Denise (Gene) Woods and their two sons, James and Justin. Ed graduated from Ottumwa High School and attended Truman State University in Missouri. He served in the army which included a tour of duty in Germany. Ed worked at the Mt. Pleasant Municipal Utilities and retired in June, 2006, as the senior water treatment operator. He was active in the Mt. Pleasant Lions Club for 26 years. He was a member of the Kelso Garver American Legion Post 650 Unit in Mansfield and a member of the Mansfield United Methodist Church. Ed will be remembered for his sense of humor. He especially enjoyed playing Santa Claus and did so for individual families as well as for various events in the community. He will be greatly missed. Memorials may be directed to the Northern Piatt Fire Protection District in Mansfield, who provided dedicated, caring service to the family.
