Edwin C. Nicholson, 68, of Mt. Union, IA, died Saturday, January 20, 2007, at the Morning Sun Care Center in Morning Sun, IA. Visitation will begin after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, 709 Mapleleaf Drive, Mt. Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel. Burial with full military rites, will be in the Trinity Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Great River Hospice and Relay for Life. On line condolences may be sent to www.olsonpowell.com Born July 14, 1938, in Columbus Junction, IA, Edwin was the son of Stephen E. and Helen C. Schenk Nicholson. He spent most of his life in the Mt. Union area and attended school there. Edwin served in the United States Army in Germany during the Viet Nam War, from November of 1963 until his discharge on May 31, 1966. Prior to enlisting in the Army, Edwin worked with his father in the family tiling business, and the Campbell Chain Company as well as working as a telephone lineman. Following his discharge, he worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, General Electric, and Champion Sparkplug. A lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, Edwin was also a member of AARP, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 150 in Burlington, IA. He liked trail riding with his horses. He traveled extensively and enjoyed his garden, nature, fast cars, and motorcycles. Edwin is survived by two daughters, Kim and her husband Nathan Benz of Morning Sun, IA, and Lori Alcala of Ottumwa, IA; two sons, Ed L. Nicholson and James Nicholson, both of Burlington, IA; and one sister, Carol Nicholson of Waterloo, IA. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kayley, Clayton, Charles, Kaleb, Remington, and Caden. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Nicholson and Lee Nicholson.
