Edna Yoder was born December 11, 1916 in Thomas, Oklahoma the daughter of Benedict and Mary Ann (Bontrager) Yoder. In her youth she was baptized and became a member of the Old Order Amish Church in which she remained a faithful member until her death. On November 28, 1935 she was united in marriage to Amos Yoder in Thomas, Oklahoma where they lived until moving to Garnett, Kansas and then to Kalona in 1955. Edna died on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at her home in rural Kalona from declining health at the age of 92 years and 19 days. Edna is survived by a son Melvin Yoder and wife Lizzie of Kalona; a daughter Mary Susan Yoder and husband Simon of Keota; 13 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; two sisters Fannie Mast of Weatherford, Oklahoma; Bertha Yoder and husband John Jr. of Hutchinson, Kansas; and a brother Tobias Yoder of Kalona. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Amos Yoder; 2 stillborn twin granddaughters; 3 great grandchildren - Nancy Arlene Yoder 9 days old; Myron Lynn Miller 3 years and 3 days old; and Heidi Kauffman stillborn; and 2 sisters - Malinda Wingard and Clara Wingard both were from Montezuma, Georgia. The family would like to extend a sincere THANK YOU to everyone for the prayers and many acts of kindness during Edna's later days and since her passing. Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2009 at the Melvin Yoder residence at 2605 560th St. S.W. in rural Kalona. Minister in charge is Rudy Miller. Burial will be in the Peter Miller cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Melvin Yoder residence and will continue all day on Thursday. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home of Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.
