Homestead-Edna Leona Wetjen was born February 3, 1913 near Homestead, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Rosina (Von Ahsen) Trimpe. She was baptized on March 2, 1913 and confirmed March 28, 1926. Edna attended St. John Parochial School. Edna was united in marriage to George Wetjen on January 16, 1941 at St. John Lutheran Church. The couple lived and farmed in Benton County from 1947 to 1964 when they moved back to the Homestead area. Edna had worked for the Bill Zuber Restaurant in Homestead for 30 years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Edna enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. Edna died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg due to complications of age at the age of 96 years. She is survived by two sons: James Wetjen of Amana and Ron (Judy) Wetjen of Homestead; five grandchildren: Tony Wetjen, Scott Wetjen, Tammy Wetjen-Kesterson, Heath Wetjen and Georgia Wetjen; four great grandchildren; a brother Paul (Mildred) Trimpe of Williamsburg; four sisters: Ida Strunk of Williamsburg, Viola Lemon of Davenport, Esther (Harvey) Huedepohl of Williamsburg and Luella Barnes of Cedar Rapids. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, a son Gordon, two sisters: Lorena Moennich and Ruth Koehn and three brothers: Arnold, Alfred and Raymond Trimpe. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church near Homestead. Pastor Wayne Woolery will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
