Edna Brenneman Niles was born February 9, 1914 in Johnson county near Kalona, Iowa the daughter of Irwin and Mattie (Miller) Brenneman. She graduated from the Hesston Academy in 1941 and from Goshen College in 1949. She taught at a country school for several years. On May 27, 1952 Edna was united in marriage to Eauve L. Niles in Kalona. They lived in Iowa City where she worked as a dietitian for the V.A. and Mercy Hospitals. After Eauve died on August 20, 1962, Edna moved to Muscatine and worked as a dietitian for Muscatine General Hospital. Edna returned to Kalona in 1967, where she owned and operated the Kalonial Fabric Shop until 1972. She was a member of the Kalona Mennonite Church, former member of the American Dietetic Association, and was a charter member of the Kalona Lioness Club. She was an excellent seamstress, and a perfectionist at quilting. Edna died on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona from complications of Alzheimer's at the age of 90 years. Edna is survived by a sister - Leona Yoder and husband L. David of Kalona; a brother - Harold H. Brenneman and wife Olive of Ephrata, Pennsylvania; a niece - Lucy Ann Conley and husband Ottis oc Crockett, Kentucky; and 2 nephews - Leon Yoder and wife Suzanne of Alpharetta, Georgia; and Keith Brenneman and wife Robin of Akron, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a nephew Lon Brenneman.
A memorial fund has been established for the Pleasantview Home Alzheimers unit.
