Edna B. Wemer was born on April 4, 1915 in Gibson, IA, the daughter of Jacob and Clara Cunningham Wemer. She moved with her parents to Minot, North Dakota in March 1917 and graduated from Minot High School in 1933. In November 1935, Edna came to Gibson, IA for the funeral of her sister-in-law and then stayed and maintained the home of her brother Herman until his death in January 1973. Edna also worked at Wemer Leasing. She became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in 1936 and taught Sunday School there for 40 years. She was the first female elder in the Gibson church and organized the Junior Missionary Society in Gibson. Edna Moved to Sigourney in 1974. She volunteered many years at Manor House in Sigourney. She became a resident of the Sigourney Care Center in September 2004. She lived 92 years, 2 months and 6 days. Edna is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Herman, Ray, Walter and Glenn Wemer; and sisters Pearl Stratton, Eva Butenschoen Bowman and twin sister Thelma E. Gieser. Edna B. Wemer, age 92,of Sigourney, died following a short illness at the Sigourney Care Center in Sigourney, IA on Sunday, June 10, 2007. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church in Gibson, IA with the Rev. Mike Conn officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until service time. Burial will be in the Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg. A memorial fund has been established for the First Presbyterian Church, the American Cancer Society and Keokuk County Hospice.
