Earnestine L. Harvey, 76, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of Salem, IA, died at her home on Thursday, November 9, 2017, surrounded by her family.
Visitation will begin after 12 noon on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Salem Congregational Church with Pastors Aaron Helterbran and Houston Sears officiating. Gifts of love and friendships may be given to the family. Burial will be in Salem East Cemetery.
Born December 29, 1940, in Glasgow, IA, Earnestine Lucile was the daughter of Lloyd Earnest and Doris Lucile (Williamson) Septer. She graduated, valedictorian, from Birmingham High School in 1958. On September 1, 1968, she married Wayne E. Harvey at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death on January 9, 2004.
Earnestine worked at the Dream Drive-In as a car hop, as a presser at Ruby Cleaners, as a clerk at Panther Rexall Drug, and as a receptionist at Dr. I.M. Deals optometry office. For 35 years she was employed as a statistical clerk in medical records at the Mental Health Institute.
Knowing the Lord at a young age, Earnestine lived her life in service to Him. She was especially active with childrens ministry, spending 46 years teaching Sunday School, directing Childrens Christmas programs, leading Bible School, sharing her puppet ministry, and serving in the Awana program. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, and after her health declined she joined Salem Congregational Church near her home. Earnestine was also a member of the Business Professional Women. She enjoyed painting by number. Her greatest love and priority was spending time with family
Surviving Earnestine is one son, Christopher (Sherrie) Harvey of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two granddaughters, Olivia Harris and Kaitlin Jennings of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two sisters, Retha Sammons of Salem, IA, and Janice (Jim) Miller of Fulton, MO.; one sister-in-law, Judy Septer of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with her parents and husband, Earnestine was preceded in death by two brothers, Earnest (Shirley) Septer and Ronald Septer; a sister, Ruth Septer in infancy; and a brother-in-law, Don Sammons.
