WELLMAN - E. Duane "Mouse" Miller was born December 8, 1929 in Wellman, Iowa the son of Melvin and Marjorie (Blumenstein) Miller. He graduated from Wellman High School in 1947 and Iowa State University in 1952. He served in the Air Force during the Korean war. Duane worked for Maple Crest, Herman Feeds, Allied Mills and he also worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals in the medical records department for 11 years. Duane was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellman, Wellman Rotary Club, KAABA Shrine, 50 year member of the Washington Lodge #26, and a 59 year member of the American Legion. He enjoyed attending Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeye games and he attended the Drake Relays for 49 straight years. Duane died on Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington at the age of 82 years. Duane is survived by a sister Sharleen Freel of Wellman, two brothers Dean Miller of Wellman, Bill and wife Karyl Miller of Washington and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Don Miller, two sisters-in-law JoAnn Miller and Patty Miller, a brother-in-law Wes Freel, a nephew Steve Freel, a niece Kathy Miller, a great niece Allison Yoder and 2 great nephews: Zachary Miller and Bradley Miller. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 AM on Friday, October 12, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, Wellman. Pastor Mark Larson will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-8 PM at the Powell Funeral Home, Wellman where the family will greet friends from 4-8 PM and a Masonic service will be held at 7:00 PM.. A memorial fund has been established for the First Baptist Church, Wellman and the Shrine Hospital. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries.
