Dwight Mehaffy

W. Dwight Mehaffy, 93, of Apple Valley, MN, and a former longtime resident of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Monday, February 15, 2016, at the Augustana Care Center in Apple Valley, MN. Friends may sign the register book and leave memorials on Friday, February 26, 2016 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the Olson Powell Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 27th at 11:00 a.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with Rev. Trey Hegar officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Henry County Animal Rescue Organization. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com Born December 7, 1922 in Burlington, IA, Wilson Dwight was the son of Bernard and Marie (Kocher) Mehaffy. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1940. He then attended Burlington College of Commerce. On February 22, 1946, he married Delores "Dee" Petermann in West Burlington, IA. Dwight served his country in the United States Army from 1942-1946 during WWII. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. He moved to Mt. Pleasant, IA in 1955, where he was a businessman and owner of P M Firestone until retiring in 1989. In 2014, Dwight and Dee moved to Apple Valley, MN to be near their daughter. Active in the Mt. Pleasant community, Dwight was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, VFW Post #2561, Mt. Pleasant Rotary, Bridge Club, Cotillion Club, Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club, and the Henry County Animal Rescue Organization. He loved to golf, play cards with friends and visit casinos. Survivors include his wife, Dee, of Apple Valley, MN; a daughter, Lorna Mehaffy Lusk, of Lakeville, MN; a son, Wayne (Jeanne) Mehaffy, of Gowrie, IA; and six grandchildren, Derik Kyle, Jordan, Erin, Katie and Ryan; and eleven great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents.
