Dwight L. Giberson, 75, of Hillsboro, IA, died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, beginning after 12 noon at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, IA where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 15, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hillsboro Baptist Church, Hillsboro, IA with Pastors Duane LaCock and Ed Newman officiating. Burial will be at the Hillsboro Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Hillsboro Baptist Church and the American Cancer Society. Born on June 1, 1934, in Stockport, IA, Dwight Lavern was the son of George and Velma Runyon Giberson. He graduated from Stockport High School in 1952. On September 2, 1955, he married Shirley Prickett at Big Cedar Christian Church near Stockport, IA. Dwight was a farmer and worked for Louden Manufacturing, J. I. Case, Crane Company and Burlington Northern Railroad. He retired in 1999 from Burlington Northern Santa Fe shops at West Burlington, IA. He was a member of the Hillsboro Baptist Church. He also served in the Fairfield National Guard Unit. Dwight enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and working on cars. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of over 54 years, Shirley, Hillsboro, IA; three sons, Perry and Scott of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Curtis (Lori) of Hillsboro, IA; three daughters, Lorrie (John) Whitaker of Polk City, IA, Pamela (Ron) Kruse of Houghton, IA, Amy (Jon) Weaver of Birmingham, IA; nine grandchildren Megan (Pat) Pond, Eric and Colton Teeter, Gabriel, Daniel and Rebecca Whitaker, Felicia and Mariah Giberson and Leah Weaver; two great-grandchildren, Audrey and Julia Pond; one brother, Dwynlin (Minnette) Giberson of Keosauqua,IA; four sisters, Rama (Richard) Dorothy of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Karen Stark of Stockport, IA, Kay (Gerald) Bailey of Salem, IA, and Marylin (Carey) Shelledy of Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Coleen Cochran; and one brother, Dwane Giberson.
