Dwayne E. Logan, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, August 17, 2013, at the Henry County Health Center. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, beginning after 12 noon, at the Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, August 22, 2013, at the Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel, with Pastors David Plooster and Rod Cooper officiating. Following the services, the body will be cremated and inurnment will be at a later date at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Mt. Pleasant Cal Ripken League or the Mt. Pleasant Schools Camp Courageous Fund. Born April 18, 1936, near Hillsboro, IA, Dwayne Errette, was the son of Errette Coleman and Margaret Augusta Delabar Logan. He attended grade school at Columbia School in Lee County and was a 1953 graduate of Donnellson High School. He continued his education at Iowa State University, Southeastern Community College, and Iowa Wesleyan College. Dwayne was a member of the United States Marine Corp and served in the National Guard, 224th Engineering Battalion, for twelve years. On August 22, 1959, he married Lila Suzanne Myers at First Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. In his younger years, Dwayne worked for Henry County as a truck driver and as a material checker at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for ten years. In 1975, he became Director of Transportation for the Mt. Pleasant Community School District. He remained in that position until the time of his retirement in 1998. Following retirement, he drove the Owl's Nest bus for approximately five years. For a short time in the early 1990s, Dwayne and his wife, Lila, owned and operated Carealot Daycare and Preschool. Family was a priority for Dwayne, and his interests centered on the activities of his children and grandchildren. He coached Little League in Mt. Pleasant and Salem and served as a Boy Scout leader in Salem. Dwayne was a history buff and especially appreciated local history. He liked to fish, hunt mushrooms, and collect Native American artifacts. Musically inclined, music became even more important to Dwayne as his years advanced. He was a member of First Baptist Church for many years when his family was growing and most recently was a member of New London Christian Church. Along with his wife, Dwayne is survived by a son, Tim Logan of Mt. Vernon, IA; two daughters, Teresa (Mark) Schneider of Chaska, MN, and Suzanne (Lonnie) Staats of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a brother Dean Logan of St. Louis, MO; and a sister, Yvonne (Aaron) Glidewell of Ft. Madison, IA. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Mathew Staats, Derek Staats, Kimberly (Evan) Franzen, Joseph Staats, Benjamin Logan, Isabella Logan, Amelia Logan, Daniel Schneider, David Schneider, and John Schneider, along with a great-granddaughter, Keelynn Franzen. Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents.
