Duane Allen Axmear was born February 27, 1958 in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Norman L. and Mildred E. Tanke Axmear. He grew up on a farm near North English and graduated from English Valley High School. He lived a short time in Iowa City before moving back and helping on the farm. In January of 1988 he moved to Sigourney, where he was employed in the work shop at First Resources Corporation. Duane took great pride in his work. In his earlier years, Duane enjoyed bowling and later on always attended bowling functions to cheer on his friends. He loved being with his family and playing pepper with them. He thought so much of his family at First Resources. Duane also enjoyed going out to eat and going to the movies. He died suddenly on Monday, December 13, 2004, at his home in Sigourney, at the age of 46 years, 9 months and 14 days. Survivors include his father: Norman Axmear of North English; brother: David Axmear and wife Lisa of North English; two nieces: Lindsay and Aimee Axmear and one nephew: Joseph Axmear. He was preceded in death by his mother, sister: Laura and twin brother, Ronald, in infancy. Funeral services are set for 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2004, at the Powell Funeral Home in North English with Pastor Ben Wilson officiating. Burial will be at North English Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 PM until 7 PM on Thursday, December 16, 2004, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for First Resources in Sigourney.
