Douglas L. Scarff, 73, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, April 05, 2009. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Thursday, April 9, 2009, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 10, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Walter Graffam officiating. Burial will be in the White Oak Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established and may be directed to the family. Douglas Lee Scarff was born on July 28, 1935, in the White Oak community, the son of Harry and Bessie Ross Scarff. He attended White Oak School and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1953. On July 10, 1954, Doug married Charlotte Koebel at the Green Mound Church of Wayland, IA. Doug worked as a carpenter for Fred Grant and Francis Smith, and was employed as a union carpenter at Locks and Dam of Keokuk and also worked as a carpenter in Iowa City. He worked for H. Eugene Smith for 42 years, retiring in 2000. Mr. Scarff was baptized at the White Oak Church. He drove a school bus while in high school. He enjoyed growing tomatoes and jalapeno peppers. Doug also loved to fish and ran bank poles at his Oakland Mills cabin. He enjoyed playing cards, pool, and NASCAR racing. Doug also liked watching sports and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears. Along with Doug's wife Charlotte, he is survived by four sons, Mike Scarff of Abra Valley, AZ, Monte (Christy) Scarff of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Lance (Lisa) Scarff of Greencastle, IN, and Kelly (Shelly) Scarff of White Oak. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildtren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald Scarff.
