Dortha J. Stutzman was born October 24, 1914 in rural Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Jephthah and Mary (Kauffman) Yoder. She grew up in the Frytown area in early years until moving to Tuscon, Arizona with her family and then to Jewelsburg, Colorado. Dortha was united in marriage on October 11, 1933 to Ammon Stutzman in Jewelsburg. They lived in Nebraska until moving to Iowa in 1947 where they lived in the Wellman and North English communities. She was a member of the Wellman Mennonite Church, and Kountry Quilters. She enjoyed gardening and quilting. Dortha died Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Parkview Manor in Wellman at the age of 98 years. Dortha is survived by a son Dale (Joanne) Stutzman of Kalona, three daughters; Fern Harbage of Denver, CO, Twila (Gary) Claeys of Kokomo, IN, Neva (Kenneth) Frey of Newton , KS, a foster daughter; Josephine (Roy) Frost of Mena, AR, 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, husband Ammon, an infant son; two sons-in-law Gary Claeys, Carl Harbage; two brothers; Ernest and Homer Yoder, and two sisters; Fannie and Lydia Yoder. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Rev Jeff Tackaberry will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Tuesday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. A memorial fund has been established for Parkview Manor.
