What Cheer-Dorothy Miller, age 88, Ruskin, Florida, formerly of West Des Moines, moved on to be with the loved ones that have preceded her in death on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at the LifePath Hospice House in Sun City Center, Florida after a brief illness. Dorothy Sarah Miller was born July 12, 1918 in rural Keokuk County, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse L. And Katie (Merryfield ) Moore. She grew up in the Delta, Sigourney and What Cheer area and graduated from What Cheer High School in 1936. Dorothy was united in marriage to Jim Miller on August 21, 1936 at the Methodist parsonage in Sigourney. To this union they were blessed with two children Dixie Ann and Jimmie L. She spent several years in Alaska with her husband, and this part of her life was filled with endless tales of all of their adventures. After the death of her husband in December 2000 she moved to Ruskin, Florida for the warmer climate. Dorothy enjoyed reading, crafting and knitting. She made many Afghans and sweaters for her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Dixie and husband Chris Hickman of Ruskin, FL; a son: Jim and wife Beatrice Miller of Urbandale; four grandchildren: Sue and husband Jeff Buzzard of Blairsville, GA, Kelli and husband Mark Hickman of Murphy, NC, Mark Miller of Ft. Meyers, FL and Scott and wife Adina Miller of Des Moines; a step granddaughter: Elaine Reinhard of Sarasota, FL and nine great grandchildren: Katie, Sarah, Amy, Chad and Jeffery Buzzard, Emma, Denzil and Ripley Miller and Nicholas Miller and a sister-in-law: Maxine Conrad of Williamsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim in 2000 and a brother Norman. Graveside services will be 11:00 am Saturday, November 4, 2006 at the Garrett Cemetery near Delta. Rev. Vince Homan will officiate. There will be no visitation. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for the family and services.
