Williamsburg-Dorothy Marie (Smith) Gorsh was born August 11, 1923 in Lincoln township, Iowa County near Victor, Iowa, the daughter of Henry Sr. and Minnie (Schmidt) Smith. Dorothy attended Lincoln #2 School and graduated from Victor High School in 1941. Dorothy was united in marriage to Alfred Erwin Gorsh on April 14, 1945 at the St. James Lutheran parsonage in Victor. The couple lived in the rural Williamsburg area until 1991 when the moved to town. Dorothy was a homemaker and helped Alfred on the farm. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Dorothy died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the Colonial Manor in Amana at the age of 85 years. She is survived by five children: Terry Gorsh and fiancee Kim Escher of Boone, Iowa, Karen Schmidt and husband Stan of Homestead, Gary Gorsh and wife Mary of Davenport, Larry Gorsh and wife Pam of Independence, Missouri and Becky Gorsh Stohlmann and husband Ken of Phoenix, Arizona; 6 grandchildren: Curt Gorsh and wife Keri, Jordan Gorsh and wife Steph, Brenda Dexter and husband David, Lacy Gorsh, Alan Gorsh and Kristin Schmidt Solberg and husband Jason; four great grandchildren: Cody and Chloe Solberg and Luke and Lexi Gorsh. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2001, a sister: Jennie Steffen and three brothers: Walter, Henry Jr. and William L. Smith. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am on Friday, June 12, 2009 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Pastor Carl Cloeter will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will beThursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
