Dorothy Marie Evans was born April 23, 1920 near Riverside, Iowa, the daughter of Alvin and Mabel (Coon) Marshall. She graduated from Riverside High School. On September 10, 1940 she was united in marriage to Orville Lloyd Evans in Riverside. They lived in Iowa City, Lone Tree, Kalona and Oxford communities. Dorothy worked in housekeeping at the University of Iowa Hospital for 17 years retiring in 1982. She enjoyed spending time with family, going out to eat, and her flower gardens. She was a member of the Women's Relief Corp. Dorothy died on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 93 years. Dorothy is survived by 4 children Joan Kron of Oxford, Gary Evans (Betty) of Lone Tree, Duane Evans of Washington, Kay Nunnally of Iowa City, 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and a sister Ramona Bell of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Orville, a sister Wilma Garwood, and 3 brothers Harold Marshall, Maynard Marshall and Bernard Marshall. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Loran Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be held from 2-5 PM on Sunday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona First Responders.
