WELLMAN - Dorothy M. Drozd was born December 10, 1920 in Wellman, Iowa, the daughter of Hal and Ina (Glandon) Whetstine. She was united in marriage on January 27, 1967 to Gabriel Joseph Drozd in Washington, Iowa. Dorothy lived most of her life in Wellman and was an active member of the First Baptist Church and The American Legion Auxiliary. During WW II she worked at the Iowa Ordnance plant and at Quaker Oats Company. Dorothy then started working at Parkview Manor in Wellman, where she worked for 20 years. Dorothy died on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Parkview Manor in Wellman at the age of 91 years. Dorothy is survived by a son Larry Burns of Hamilton, Ohio; three grandchildren Terri (Burns) Miller, Toni (Burns) Hunter, Robert Burns; four great grandchildren; three great great grandsons, two sisters Phyllis Hershberger of Wellman, Iowa; Marcia Fouts of Iowa City, Iowa; a brother James Whetstine of Cape Coral, Florida; a special nephew Ken Drozd of El Campo, Texas a special niece Lisa Brenneman of Houston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Richard Burns; two sisters Irene Whetstine, Frances Leatherman; and three brothers George Whetstine, Arthur Whetstine and Gerald Whetstine (Infant). Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Pastor Mark Larson will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Monday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman where the family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the First Baptist Church.
