Williamsburg -- Dorothy James Schwiebert, daughter of Alfred and Alice (Jones) James, was born on September 8, 1916, and she was raised in Williamsburg. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1933. She attended Iowa State Teacher's College and taught rural school for two years until she was married. Dorothy married Glen Schwiebert, Victor, on September 15, 1938, at the Congregational Church in Williamsburg. After they married, they moved to a farm south of Victor where they spent their 15 years of married life until Glen was killed in a farm accident in 1954. Following Glen's death, she and her daughters moved to Victor, and Dorothy returned to teaching. She continued her education earning hours towards her degree which she received from Drake University in l967. Dorothy taught 7th grade and elementary music for Victor Public Schools, which became HLV, from 1955 to 1962. When she moved to Des Moines she then taught in the Urbandale Schools from 1962 until retiring in 1979. She moved to a Kansas City retirement home near her daughter, Margery, in 1997. She returned to Williamsburg and Highland Ridge Assisted Living Center in 2004 near her other daughter, Susan. During her lifetime, Dorothy was a member of the Congregational Church in Williamsburg, Victor Immanuel Methodist Church, Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines, and St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Williamsburg. She was a member of the P.E.O., Chapter CN and the Eastern Star. She loved music and had special musical talents which she loved sharing with others until the end of her life. She will be fondly remembered for all the joy she brought to people with her beautiful voice and piano playing. Dorothy died Sunday, February 18, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 90 years after suffering from age-related illnesses. Dorothy is survived by two daughters: Susan (Russell) Heitmann of Williamsburg, and Margery (David) Reid of Lenexa, KS; five grandchildren: Michael (Colleen) Heitmann, Nancy (Colby) Heitmann-Jacoby both of Williamsburg, Ellen Reid of Overland Park, KS, Emily (Mark) Reid Caron of Olathe, KS and Thomas Reid currently of Madrid, Spain; and four great grandchildren: Kristin and Matthew Heitmann, and Ethan and Kayte Jacoby. She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Alice James, husband Glen, two brothers Floyd and Orlen James and two sisters Lovera Aulick and Luella Hopp. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. Rev. James Parks will officiate. Burial will be in the Victor Immanuel Cemetery in rural Victor. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
