KEOTA-Dorothy H. Horras, age 87, of Keota, died Friday, August 6, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a lengthy illness. Dorothy was born October 13, 1916, in rural Harper, Iowa, to Mike, Sr. and Catherine (Adrian) Hammes. She grew up in the Clear Creek Community and received her education in country school. On February 28, 1938, she married Howard J. Horras at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The couple lived and farmed north of Harper seven years, near Ollie for 30 years and retired to Keota in 1979. Dorothy was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota and the Altar and Rosary Society. She wrote articles called "Senior Citizens and More" for the Keota Eagle and enjoyed sewing, china painting, scenic weaving and birds. Survivors include six daughters: Anna Mae Stewart of Davenport, Sandra McNamara of Urbandale, Betty Schott and husband Ron of Sigourney, Jana Sterling of Hedrick, Susan Stibal and husband Mike of Coralville and Cindy Hendrickson and husband Jeff of Coralville; two sons: Eddie Horras and wife Karen of Ollie and Thomas Horras and wife Lynnelle of Knoxville; 24 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren: Shannon Patrick Sterling and Shawn Howard Horras; five brothers: Arnold Peiffer, Adrian Peiffer, Edward Hammes, Joe Hammes and Leon Hammes and two sisters: Agnes Horras and Berniece Vogel. Mass of the Resurrection is set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Interment will be at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Clear Creek Township. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 9, 2004 at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be an Altar and Rosary Society Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. Monday. A memorial fund has been established for Mother Cabrini Catholic Church in Richland.
