SIGOURNEY-Dorothy Lucille Fischer, age 98, of Sigourney, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney. Dorothy was born June 30, 1911, in Hedrick, Iowa, to Frank and Ollie (Goehring) Ott. She graduated from Delta High School and attended William Penn University for two years. Dorothy then taught in rural schools in Keokuk County and Delta. On May 27, 1945 she married Karl Fischer in Delta. The couple lived and farmed west of Sigourney until moving into Sigourney in 1971. Dorothy became a resident at Manor House Care Center in July of 2006. She was an active member of the Delta Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She later joined the Sigourney Christian Church and its C.W.F. Dorothy was also a leader for the Keokuk Kookies 4-H club, served on the Sigourney school board and was a member of Keokuk County Farm Bureau and its Women's Chorus, Pollyanna Club, Scattergood Club, Garden Club and P.E.O. She enjoyed showing and judging flowers, especially at the Keokuk County Fair. Survivors include her daughter: Karlene Wonderlich and husband Arlen of Ames; three grandchildren: Annalie (Chris) Thies, Kirscha (Brent) Gray and Ahren (Heather) Wonderlich and six great grandchildren: Sydney and Landon Thies, Hudson and Kasch Gray and Jaksen and Kali Wonderlich. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the Sigourney Christian Church, with Pastor Jim Bringman officiating. Burial will be at Garrett Cemetery near Delta. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. A memorial fund has been established for the Sigourney Christian Church and Keokuk County 4-H. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for Dorothy and her family.
