Dorothea Walker

DELTA-Dorothea M. Walker, age 97, of Delta, died Saturday, July 15, 2017, at the Sigourney Care Center.
Dorothea was born January 20, 1920, in New Sharon, the daughter of Howard and Fern (Collister) Walker. She graduated from What Cheer High School and attended college. She married Earl Teague and they were later divorced. She then married George Jones. Dorothea lived in Montezuma, Cedar Rapids and Ames before moving to Delta in 1988. Whe was the head cook at Iowa State University for 10 years, retiring in 1981. Dorothea was a member of the What Cheer Christian Church - Disciples of Christ and enjoyed quilting, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, reading, visiting with the ladies and her grandchildren.
Survivors include four children: Jill (Larry) Hartwig of Delta, Joan Laing of Iowa City, Judson (Mary) Jones of Grinnell and Nathan Jones of Zwolle, Louisiana; nine grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 20 great great grandchildren; one great great great grandchild; two sisters: June Leydens of Des Moines and Jackie Culp of What Cheer and one brother: Daryl Walker of Adkins, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; step-mother: Harriet Culp; two grandchildren: Mark Hartwig and Faith Jones Almunsied; one great grandson: Christopher Stout; three sisters: Roberta Hartwig, Jeanine Hartwig and Doralene Olson and four brothers: Theron Walker, Arlan Walker, Calvin Walker and Gary Walker.

Per Dorothea's wishes, she will be cremated and no services will be held. Burial will be at a later date at Boswell Cemetery near Barnes City. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for Dorothea and her family. Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
