Williamsburg- Doris May Wardenburg was born January 19, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Clarence and Ida (Hewelt) Anderson. She graduated in 1945 from High School in Chicago and received her teaching degree from Luther Institute in Chicago. Doris taught at the Lutheran School in Keystone and Immanuel Lutheran School near Williamsburg. Doris was united in marriage Norman "Pete" Wardenburg on September 13, 1952, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Chicago. They farmed in rural Williamsburg. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. Doris enjoyed playing cards, watching the Hawkeyes, bowling and spending time with her family. Doris passed away November 8, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at the age of 89 years following a sudden illness.
Doris is survived by her sons: Larry (Barbara) Wardenburg of Williamsburg and Greg (Patricia) Wardenburg of Vinton; 4 grandchildren: Jeff (Ashley) Wardenburg of Marion, Heather (Kevin) O'Brien of Fort Dodge, Jillian Wardenburg of Clarinda and Derek (Haley) Wardenburg of Cedar Rapids; 2 great grandchildren: Jackson O'Brien and Brynlee Wardenburg. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987, parents and brother Theodore Anderson.
Celebration Of Life Service will be 10:30 AM Monday, November 13, 2107 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Pastor Richard Meyer will officiate. Burial will in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. A memorial fund has been established for Immanuel Lutheran Church and LIS Scholarship Fund.
