Donald Wayne Mills, 67, of rural Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, died Saturday, January 28, 2006, at his home. Visitation for Donald Wayne will be held on Tuesday, January 31, beginning after 2:00 p.m., at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m., at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, With Pastor Richard Iles officiating. Burial will be in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Mt. Pleasant Senior Citizen Center and Hospice of Central Iowa. Donald Wayne was born on June 4, 1938, in the Harrisburg Community of Van Buren County, to Donald Lee and Edith Lucille Giberson Mills. He grew up in the Stockport area and graduated from Stockport High School. On July 5, 1959, he married Violet Marie Stafford in Hillsboro, Iowa. She survives. The couple continued to live in the Stockport area after their marriage until moving to the Mt. Pleasant area in 1966. A life long farmer, Donald Wayne served in the Iowa National Guard for several years and was discharged in 1963. He was an over the road driver and drove for Iles Trucking, Hellman Trucking of Houghton, Iowa, and CRST. In 1987, he went to work for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and worked there until the time of his retirement in 2002. After retiring, he drove the RTA bus in Mt. Pleasant. Donald Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, and any type of wildlife. He had a model race car collection and was especially fond of driving his 1957 Chevy. The family has several jigsaw puzzles on display that he put together. He loved spending time with his family which included his two collies, Lady and Lassie. Along with his wife Violet, Donald Wayne is survived by five daughters, Deb and her husband Joe Hudson of Salem, IA, Teresa Barnett of Salem, IA, Krista Schwartz of Washington, IA, Sherry Mills and her husband Carl Clayton of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Carol Ruble and her fianc Tony Gilpin of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three sons, Kevin Mills and his significant other Dan Brown of Des Moines, IA, Steve Mills and his significant other Darla Clubb of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Brent Mills and his wife Rachel Remmers of Mt. Pleasant, IA. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Donald Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.
