Donald C. Waterhouse, 80, of Salem, IA, died Monday, April 12, 2010, at the Donnellson Health Center. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Thursday, April 15th at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Larry Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Salem South Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Lewelling Quaker Museum. Born on December 2, 1929, Donald was the son of Ellsworth and Freda Krueger Waterhouse. On April 23, 1952, he married Lola Johnston at Salem, IA. She survives. Mr. Waterhouse was a long time employee of the Dexter Company in Fairfield, where he was a foundry worker and drove a fork lift. He retired from the plant after 45 years of service. He was a member of I.A.M. (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers). Donald loved to farm with his John Deere tractors. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Besides his wife Lola of Salem, IA, he is survived by one daughter, Mary Gallup of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one grandson, Richard E. "J.R." Kerr of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one brother, Leeroy Waterhouse of Salem, IA; and one sister, Louise Gillespie of Mt. Pleasant, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Donna Kay Waterhouse; and six brothers and four sisters.
