North English-Donald E. O'Brien was born March 5, 1936 near Kinross, Iowa, the son of Edmund and Mabel (Johnston) O'Brien. He graduated from English Valley High School. Don was united in marriage to Janet L. Heitshusen on June 4, 1955 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Don served in the United States Air force for 4 years. He worked as a fertilizer branch manager in Keota, an Auctioneer, a farmer and an entrepreneur through out his life. Don was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Eagles and a past state director for the Jaycee's. Don will be remember for being a loving husband, father, grandpa and friend. Don died Thursday, February 22, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a short illness at the age of 70 years. He is survived by his wife: Jan of North English; four children: Debbra Fier of Des Moines, Scott O'Brien of Libertyville, Illinois, Parke O'Brien of Iowa City and Shellie Striegel of Sigourney; five grandchildren: Spencer Fier, Michael O'Brien, Sydney Striegel, Brett Striegel and Evan Striegel; a sister Ruth Anne Reel of West Des Moines. Don was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: John Robert O'Brien and a sister: Rosemary O'Brien. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Little Creek Cemetery near Kinross with military rites. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. There will be a prayer service at 7:00pm.
