Donald L. "Tony" Schroeder, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away, Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at Parkview Home in Wayland, IA. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, October 13, 2014, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with Pastor Deb Savage officiating. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Hospice Compassus or Parkview Home. Born June 4, 1925 in Burlington, IA, Donald Laverne was the son of George W. and Nellie F. (Pence) Schroeder. He attended schools in Danville and Lockridge, IA. Tony never married. During the Korean Conflict he served in the United States Army as a cook at Camp Atterbury in Indiana and Camp Pendleton in California. As a young man, he helped his father farm near Lockridge and later worked construction with Nelson Construction and Ideal Ready Mix. He served as a sheriff in Jefferson County. Favorite hobbies included bird watching. He enjoyed watching Saturday night wrestling on TV. He was well informed of the local and national news. Tony had difficulty with walking, but always had a great attitude. He was very fond of his many nieces and nephews. Survivors include a sister, Stella Bollinger, of Barstow, CA; a half-sister, Sandra Hart of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a half-brother, Russell Schroeder of Burlington, IA; a sister-in-law, Rozella Schroeder of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and numerous nephews and nieces including Kathy Rauenbuehler who was his primary caregiver. Along with his parents, Tony was preceded in death by three brothers, Graden, Paul and George, Jr.; a half-brother, Roger; and six sisters, Lucilla, Phyllis, Donna, Pauline, Elaine and Marjorie.
