KALONA - Donald Kenneth Knepp, 86, of Troy, Texas, formerly of Kalona died Monday, November 27, 2017, at Senior Care of Western Hills in Temple, Texas.
Don was born September 17, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was adopted into the loving home of Edwin and Lena (Yoder) Knepp and raised in the Kalona community. Don attended Boone rural school and Iowa Mennonite School where he was active in softball. While attending IMS he met the love of his life Minnie Gingerich, they were married on June 26, 1949 at her parents home. He was drafted into the Army and served for 21 years in the United States, Vietnam, Korea and Europe. Don and Minnie have three children, Mary Lee was born in Iowa, Kenneth was born in the Alaska Territory, and Rodney was born in France. After retiring from the Army he owned and operated a café in Keystone and later was a long haul truck driver. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking.
Don is survived by his loving wife Minnie of 68 years; 3 children: Mary Lee Knepp of Troy, Texas, Kenneth Knepp of Dysart, Rodney Knepp of Anamosa; 5 grandchildren: Tiffany Hensley, Tim Hensley, David Knepp, Cody Parr and Megan Parr; 3 great grandchildren: Blake White, Jonathan White, Caitlyn Hensley; and 2 great great grandchildren Reighleigh and Brantly. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 4, 2017, at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Pastor Charles Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona with Military Rites By Charles Polton American Legion Post #427. Visitation will be held from 2-4 PM on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home. A general memorial fund has been established.
