Donald J. Heisdorffer was born November 22, 1919 near Harper, Iowa the son of Mike and Anna (Spanier) Heisdorffer. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII. On May 29, 1943 he was united in marriage to Lola Mae Swailes at the Bethel Church near Harper. They lived in the Richland, Harper and Sigourney communities. Donald was a farmer and also worked for the Conner Brothers in Sigourney for several years. He later worked as a mechanic for Adventureland in Altoona for seven years before retiring in 1999. Donald died on Monday, June 25, 2007 at the V.A. Medical Center in Knoxville, Iowa from complications of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on March 26, 2007. He was 87 years old. Donald is survived by two sons - Gary Heisdorffer of Ryan; Galen Heisdorffer and wife Elaine of Ottumwa; a grandson Eric Heisdorffer of Ottumwa; a granddaughter Jackie Heisdorffer of Clive; and a brother Bill Heisdorffer of Sigourney. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a grandson Ross, four brothers Pete, Albert, Virgil, Walter; two sisters Rose Heisdorffer, Mary Porn; and a special friend Dorothy Heisdorffer.
A memorial fund has been established for Lake Belva Deer and Heartland Humane Society.
