Holbrook-Donald J. Donohoe was born January 16, 1941, near Holbrook, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Teresa (Weldon) Donohoe. He attended school in Holbrook and graduated from Parnell High School. Don was united in marriage to Mary Ann Tiernan on November 11, 1960 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parnell. He spent most of his life on the family farm west of Holbrook. Don was a heavy equipment operator and a farmer. He enjoyed spending time with his family and going to his grandchildren's activities. Don passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018 at his home with his family by his side at the age of 77 years.
He is survived by his wife: Mary Ann of Holbrook; five children: Dave "Cracker" Donohoe of Holbrook, Dean Donohoe of Cedar Rapids, Deanne Lehn of Parnell, Bob (Janet) Donohoe of Parnell and Michelle (Josh) Stratton of Homestead; 13 grandchildren: Ashley (Bryant), Ethan, Cole, Corey, Kelly, Zack, Mick, Kaylee, Elizabeth, Olivia, Ayden, Bowen and Sophia; a great granddaughter: Brexley; a brother: Merv (Helen) Donohoe of Parnell; three sisters: Ann Lester of Cedar Rapids, Marilyn (Jack) Johnson of Parnell and Kaye (Mel) Ahlberg of Williamsburg and a brother-in-law: Jack (Barb) Tiernan of Williamsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Dolores Malloy and three brothers: Jerry, Kenny and Mick Donohoe.
Funeral Mass will be 9:30 am Saturday, May 12, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in Holbrook. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg, where there will be a prayer service at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice or family choice. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
