Donald Dean Popham was born on November 11, 1946, in Sigourney, IA, a son of Daryl G. and Opal F. Denison Popham. Donald lived most of his life in the North English community, graduating from English Valleys High School in 1965.Donald served in the US Army in Munich, Germany. On June 8, 1968 he married Marie Garringer in North English. They had three daughters together. Donald later married Ann Carter on October, 1995, at Lake Iowa. Donald worked as a mechanic at McKenna Ford before working 28 years at Amana Refrigeration. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, golfing, being on the computer, and riding his motorcycle. He died suddenly at the Marengo Memorial Hospital in Marengo on Thursday, September 23, 2010. He lived 63 years, 10 months and 12 days. He is survived by his wife Ann Popham of North English; twin daughters Heather (Abe) Stoner of Washington and Hollie Myers of Keota; daughter Jennifer (Wes) Marks of South English; step-children: Beth (Andy McGuire) Carter, Brian Carter, Lloyd Carter and John Carter;15 grandchildren; his mother Opal Popham of North English; a sister Linda (Carroll) Vikel of Iowa City; twin brother Ronald (Helen) Popham of Riverside; and brother Brent Popham of Kalona. Donald was preceded in death by his father. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Pastor Michelle Williamson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 PM to 8 PM on Friday, September 24, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial of his ashes with military rites will be in the Champion Hill Cemetery, near North English. In lieu of flowers a general memorial fund has been established.
