Diana Long-Sandage, 62, of Birmingham, IA, died Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A private family service will be held at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. Born May 27, 1947, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Diana Darlene was the daughter of Edward F. and Marilyn (Wandling) Long. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. On November 28, 1970, Diana married Gary Sandage. The couple later divorced. She was employed by GE in the assembly department for many years. She then became a homemaker. Later, while living in Wisconsin, she worked for Emerson Electric in Sturgeon Bay. After she moved back to Iowa, she worked for HCM Plastics in Fairfield before her retirement. Dancing, traveling, listening to country music and reading were some of Diana's favorite pastimes. She also enjoyed taking long walks. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren. Diana is survived by her daughter, Robin Cesar of Danville, IA; two grandchildren, Sophia Marie and Sebastian James Cesar of Danville, IA; her mother, Marilyn Long of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a brother, Dean Long of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and by a sister, Jerry Birdsall and her husband, Gail of Loveland, CO. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward "Bud" Long.
