KEOTA - Dennis John Hammen was born January 3, 1928 at his Century Farm Home in Clear Creek Township near Harper, Iowa the son of Nicholas and Theresa (Redlinger) Hammen. He wa a lifelong resident of the Keota community. He received his education at rural East Pleasant Plain School, St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Keota High School in 1945. He was a farmer and retired in 1960 moving to Keota with his family. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Parish St. Mary's Catholic Church. He enjoyed reading, music, dancing and viewing TV keeping abreast of world events and horticulture. Dennis died on Monday, February 11, 2008 at Maplewood Manor in Keota following a lengthy illness at the age of 80 years. He is survived by several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Vernetta Rogers, a brother-in-law Rex Rogers and a beloved aunt Clara Hammen. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Holy Trinity Parish St. Mary's Catholic Church in Keota. Rev. Charles Fladung will officiate. Burial will be at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in rural Harper. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Memorial's may be given for Masses or to the American Cancer Society.
