KEOTA-Dennis Ray Detweiler, age 52, of Keota, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Dennis was born July 25, 1956, in Washington, to Merlyn and Mary Ellen (Bandy) Detweiler. He graduated from Keota High School in 1974 and Kirkwood Community College, with a degree in Auto Mechanics. On July 26, 1980, Dennis married Cindy Sheets at St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota. Dennis worked as a mechanic for Mayer's Standard Service until 1989, when he began working for the University of Iowa Motor Pool. He was a member of the Lone Tree Garden Tractor Pullers Association for seven years and enjoyed riding his Harley with friends, his grandchildren, working on pulling tractors at the shop with Ryan, Merlyn, Mike, Mark "Trail" Sheetz and Brian Lewis and collecting model International Harvestor tractors with Ryan. Survivors include his wife: Cindy Detweiler; son: Ryan (Katie) Detweiler; grandchildren: Dakota and Lexus Detweiler; parents: Merlyn and Mary Ellen Detweiler; sister: Mary Jean (Dan H.) Peiffer and brother: Mike (Nancy) Detweiler, all of Keota. He was also survived by his mother-in-law: Dianna Sheets; brothers-in-law: Patrick (Jean) Sheets, Joey Sheets and Chris (Lisa) Sheets; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother: Bobby and his grandparents: Bill and Blanche Detweiler and Edgar and Mable Blick Bandy. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2009, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Dennis and his family.
