Delores Thomas was born July 31, 1927, in Grand Island, Nebraska, a daughter of Fred and Pauline Pleis. She was one of five children and a twin. She grew up in Grand Island, Nebraska and graduated from Grand Island High School in 1946. She met Russell Thomas while he was stationed at the Army air base; he was part of the 242nd base unit. They met at the roller rink, both enjoyed skating. Delores worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone and transferred to California with the company. She and Russ were married in Los Angeles in 1950. They moved back to Iowa and lived north of Des Moines. In 1955 they relocated back in California. They had three children: Gary, David and Cindy. Every other summer the family would make a road trip back to Iowa, to spent time with family. Delores enjoyed reading, and working with ceramics. She believed in our Lord, Jesus Christ and enjoyed listening to sermons by Billy Graham, and John Hagee. She suffered from dementia in her declining years. She loved Dr Pepper, Turkey Pot pies and chocolate. She liked to watch TBN and game shows. On July 27th she was admitted into the hospital, with a gastric ulcer. After several bouts in ICU, a tracheotomy and chicken poxes, she passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 25, 2011. She remained feisty to the end. She is survived by her children Gary Thomas and David Thomas both of Acton, CA and Cindy Thomas of Camarillo, CA; a brother Arthur Pleis; a sister Dorothy Pleis; 2 sisters-in-law Esther Thomas and Doris Pleis; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1997, a twin brother Donald Pleis, brother Auto Pleis and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at the United Methodist Church, Victor. Rev Jim Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the Genoa Bluff Cemetery, Rural Ladora. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 PM at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg. A general memorial fund has been established.
