Delma Spence, age 86 of Marengo, died Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Compass Memorial Healthcare, Marengo, following a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev Diane Vorhies officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, December 20, 2022 with the family present from 5 to 7 P.M. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Marengo Cemetery. Memorials may be contributed to Essence of Life Hospice or the” Hope for All” Foundation.

Delma leaves behind a loving family and many friends. Survivors include her husband, Gary; her children, Susie Smith (Walter) of Marengo, Sandra Kinzenbaw of Marengo, and Doug (Kari) Spence of Marengo; six grandchildren, Duane Smith of Marengo, Brandi Beecher (Tony) of Cascade, Derek Smith of Marengo, Courtney Kinzenbaw of Marengo, Dylan Spence and Sidney Spence, both of Marengo; and ten great-grandchildren, Kayla Durkop (Dallas) of Lost Nation, Savannah Smith of Marengo, Davis Smith of Ankeny, Dawson Smith and Dane Smith, both of Marengo, Dalton Beecher of Cedar Falls, Brody Beecher and Avery Beecher of Cascade, Declan Smith of Marengo, and Liddy Kinzenbaw of Marengo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son-in-law Ross Butler.

Delma Marie Bryant was born March 12, 1936, in Osceola, Iowa, the daughter of Delmer and Mary Woods Bryant. She attended the Woodburn and Osceola schools and married Gary Spence on December 18, 1953. The couple resided on a farm near Woodburn. They moved to Indianola when Gary was hired by Pioneer Seed, and then moved to Marengo in 1957. Besides being a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker, Delma worked at Pioneer Seed on the seed-sizing equipment. She worked for over 30 years at Big G Foods, in the deli and as a cashier. She also spent a few years working at the Marengo Meat Market located on the square

Delma enjoyed her family and friends. She loved attending the grandchildrens’ events, including many dance recitals. She rode her bike with her friend Leila Niday, and liked watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, especially the basketball games.
