HARPER-Delbert William Striegel, age 90, of Harper, died Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Maplewood Manor in Keota following a bout with cancer. Delbert was born January 11, 1914, near Harper, to Earl and Dora (Goeldner) Striegel and received his education at St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Harper. On September 21, 1937, he married Alma Bombei at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in rural Harper. Following marriage the couple lived and farmed in the Harper area, retiring and moving into Harper in 1981. On January 2, 1993, he married Joyce Holm Anderson at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, served on the Keokuk County Hospital Board 12 years and the Harper City Council and sold Northrop King seed and Archer oil for many years. He enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting, making blackberry wine, watching baseball, dancing, playing cards and his family. Survivors include his wife: Joyce Striegel of Harper; twelve children: Kenneth and wife Deb of Ollie, Larry and wife Sandy of Harper, Joyce Webster of Rome, Texas, Francene Lorenzo and husband Louis of Boonton, New Jersey, Jeanette Peirce and husband Richard of Williamsburg, Leo and wife Jacquelin of Harper, Edward and wife Barbara of Keswick, Dennis and wife Jeannie of Harper, Leroy and wife Deborah of Carlisle, Sharon Banks and husband Ed of Letts, Raymond and wife Virginia of Indianola and Jane Mendenhall and husband David of Garden Grove; one step daughter: Jackie Morehead and husband Gregory of Albia; 34 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; one brother: Forrest of Keota and a sister-in-law: Virginia Striegel of What Cheer. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Alma in 1992; infant son: Daniel Lee; daughter-in-law: Linda Striegel in 1996; two brothers: Lowell and Myron and two sisters: Vida Sieren and Goldie Striegel in infancy. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2004, at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be at St. Elizabeth Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 13, 2004, at the church, where there will be a wake service followed by a K.C. rosary at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Keokuk County, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church or the Knights of Columbus. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
