Deanne Alter

Deanne R. Alter, 59, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at the University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2008, beginning at 12:00 p.m. Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel. Her body will be cremated following the service. Memorials have been established for the Lion's Eye Bank and the American Cancer Society. Born June 15, 1949, in Moline, IL, Deanne Ruth Alter was the daughter of Leslie E. and Ruth E. Anderson Alter. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 1967. Deanne attended the University of Iowa for two years. Deanne worked as a payroll clerk for the American Red Cross in Alexandria, VA, for eight years. She also worked as a group leader for Metromail for five 1-2 years and as a machine operator at Alaniz and Sons in Mt. Pleasant, IA. Deanne also served as a cook at the Best Western in Fairfield, IA, and at Buff's Restaurant and Sirloin Stockade in Mt. Pleasant Deanne was a former member of the Mt. Pleasant Lioness Club. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and was a volunteer at the Community Action in Mt. Pleasant. She attended the Trenton Methodist Church. Survivors include her mother, Ruth Alter of Mt. Pleasant, and two daughters, Susan E. (Brian) Skinner of Ottumwa, IA, and Bonnie E. Alter of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and one brother, Don G. Alter of Donnellson, IA. Also surviving are one granddaughter, Stacy Alter; one grandson, Kyle Harr, and two great-granddaughters, Alize Harr and Jazmyne Harr. Deanne was preceded in death by her father, Leslie, one sister Joyce Alter, and one brother, Ivan Alter.
