Dean Vorhies

Dean W. Vorhies, 73, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, January 11, 2014, at his residence. As requested, the body has been cremated. Friends may sign the register and leave memorials from 10-6 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. A memorial committal will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to New Sweden Methodist Cemetery and Lockridge Cemetery. The son of Clarence "Swede" and Doris D. (Bottorff) Vorhies, Dean Willis Vorhies was born January 30, 1940 in Fairfield, IA. He grew up in the Lockridge area and attended Lockridge Schools. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1959. A long time baker, Dean was a dietary employee at the Mental Health Institute and Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility for 33years. He retired from this position in 1995. After retirement he made deliveries for Bud's Flower Shop. Most recently, Dean was employed at Iris City Antique Mall. He was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Lockridge. Survivors include several cousins. Preceding Dean in death are his parents; and two brothers, Kevin and Richard Vorhies.
