MOUNT PLEASANT - Dean Van Trump, 89 of Mount Pleasant passed away peacefully on Sunday December 19, 2021, at Park Place Elder Living with his loving family by his side.
Dean was born May 15, 1932 in Salem, Iowa, the son of Alva and Bernice (Hoggatt) Van Trump. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1950 and from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1957. On June 9, 1957, Dean was united in marriage to Ruth Scarff. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. They made their home in the Mount Pleasant community. Dean worked for Brown Shoe Fit, Sears and Roebuck, and Williams Clothing. He then owned and operated Van Trump Clothing for 10 years, retiring in 1997. Family was very important to Dean and he never missed an opportunity to spend time together.
Dean is survived by his sons: Mike (Nancy) Van Trump of Fort Madison; Matthew (Heather) Van Trump of Iowa City; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Belau of Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Ruth.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Henry County Hospital, Park Place Elder Living and EveryStep Hospice for the wonderful loving care they gave to Dean.
According to his wishes his body has been cremated and there will be no services. Memorials may be given to the donor's favorite charity in memory of Dean. The Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel is caring for Dean and his family.
