David Smith, 72, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 29th at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jeff McPheron officiating. Born March 4, 1938, in Schenectady, NY, David Forrest was the son of Donald and Esther (Reed) Smith. David grew up in New York State and received his education there. He married his first love, Janice. She preceded him in death. On August 19, 1992, he married Charlene Bujanowski in New York. The couple moved to Iowa in 1995, and were later divorced. David was self employed as a painter and did wallpapering. He proudly drove a bus for handicap children and enjoyed assisting them on a daily basis. While living in Mt. Pleasant, he owned and operated the D. M. Taxi Service. David was of the Methodist faith. He loved spending time with his dog, Lady. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge, and enjoyed playing bingo, eating oreos, going to casinos and spending time with his friends. Survivors include a son, David Smith of New York; three grandchildren; two step sons, Julian Bujanowski of Fairfield, IA and Chester Bujanowski of Albany, NY; five step grandchildren; and two brothers, Ron Smith of Florida and Don Smith of New York. He was preceded in death by his parents.
