KALONA - David Lee Slabach was born November 28, 1949, in Kokomo, Indiana, the son of Edwin and Nona (Miller) Slabach. He graduated from Iowa Mennonite High School in 1968. On June 12, 1971, David was united in marriage to Bev White at the Methodist Church in Coralville. They have lived in the Kalona community for many years where David worked for Slabach Construction, KLK Construction and Kalonial Transport. David loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, playing scrabble and the card game Panic. He also enjoyed reading, bowling, attending tractor pulls and automobile racing. David passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017, at his home in Kalona at the age of 68 years.
David is survived by his loving wife Bev; 2 children: Jennifer (Adam) Beairsto of Winter Springs, Florida; Amy (Jordan) Boock of Denver, Colorado; 3 grandchildren: Caleb, Cole and Cameron Beairsto and one baby in waiting; 2 brothers: Herman Slabach of Kalona; Freeman Slabach of Sarasota, Florida; and 3 sisters: Elsie Lewis of Jacksonville, Florida; Norma Slabach of Sarasota, Florida; Kathy (Dave) Bender of Sarasota, Florida; and a sister-in-law Karen Slabach of Great Falls, Montana. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lloyd, and a sister-in-law Sonya Slabach.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 PM on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona with a time of sharing starting at 3:00 PM.
