Williamsburg-David Jeffrey (Jeff) Young was born August 21, 1961 in Muscatine, Iowa. He was the son of David Ward and Nancy (Heller) Young. He graduated from Oakland High School and Simpson College with a degree in Accounting. Jeff was united in marriage to Mary Ann Sherman on September 5, 1987 at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. They have lived in Williamsburg for nearly 30 years.
Jeff was the SVP and CFO at Farmers Trust and Savings Bank in Williamsburg, where he worked for over 29 years. He was well-known for his strong work ethic and his willingness to drop everything to help others regardless of what needed to be done. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, watching Hawkeye football, making homemade ice cream and grilling and smoking meat. His biggest joy was spending time with his daughters and grandsons (especially giving them wagon rides on the back of the lawn mower). Jeff passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at the age of 60 after a 2.5-year-long battle with cancer. Despite his difficult battle with cancer, he always maintained his signature dry, sarcastic sense of humor that was so loved by his family. He strived to make people laugh and put a smile on their face.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Williamsburg; four daughters: Alayna Young of Iowa City, Erin Young of Williamsburg, Alysha Young of Williamsburg, and Maria Young of Cedar Rapids; two grandsons: Caden Young-Wiand and David Lukas Young; his father, Ward Young of Oakland, IA; three siblings: Susan (Mark) Beedle of Oakland, Peter (Robin) Young of Muscatine, and Bryan (Liz) Young of Washington, D.C. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy.
