David Arthur McClellen was born Thursday, May 4, 1922 in North English, Iowa the son of William and Fern (Brubaker) McClellen. He graduated from North English High School. On July 4, 1942, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Kirkpatrick in Macon, Missouri. He served in the Army during WWII. They have resided in Wellman since 1950. Dave owned and operated R & M Body Shop in Wellman, and then sold to Buckwalter Motors where he managed the auto body repair shop for 18 years before retiring. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Polton American Legion Post #427, and a former member of the VFW. He was a former Wellman City Coucilman, served on Wellman Planning and Zoning Committee, and was a Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed fishing, camping and golfing in his spare time. David died on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 87 years. David is survived by his wife Dorothy of Wellman; two sons - Ron McClellen of Iowa City; Michael McClellen of Hills; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. And special family members Dan Olson, Susan McClellen and Ginn Azboy. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Robert McClellen. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Rev. Rich Pippert will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at Powell Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established for Asbury United Methodist Church and Wellman Ambulance.
