KEOTA-Darlene M. Greiner, age 87, of Keota, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa. Darlene was born March 12, 1925, in Harper, to William J. and Theresa Frances (Sondag) Clarahan and graduated from St. Elizabeth High School. On January 22, 1946, she married James P. Greiner at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. The couple lived in the Talleyrand area. Darlene moved into Keota in 1976. She was the head cook at the Keota Senior Center for about eight years and was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and the Altar and Rosary Society. Darlene was a past member of the St. Theresa Study Club and St. Mary's Reading Circle. She enjoyed being active in various card clubs. Darlene was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Darlene's family was the center of her life. She lived for the moments when the whole family was together. She loved to cook and always had a meal and dessert ready to serve to her arriving guests. For many years she hosted Christmas and prepared a feast for her large family. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's baptisms, first communions, school graduations and weddings. She was a proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Survivors include eight children: Hubert (Melissia) Greiner of Keota, Janice (Ray) Doud of Schaumburg, Illinois, Eugene (Karen) Greiner of Harper, Leon (Toni) Greiner of Keota, Linda (Terry) Powers of Ottumwa, Joyce (Charles) Dayton of Marion, Marlene Greiner of Maryland Heights, Missouri and Marion (Lisa) Greiner of Indian Trail, North Carolina; son-in-law: Don Rowland of Ottumwa; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1971; daughter: Diana Rowland and two brothers: Kenneth Clarahan and Elmer Clarahan in infancy. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Clear Creek Township. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2013, at Powell Funeral Home, where there will be an altar and rosary society rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a wake service following.
