SIGOURNEY-Darlene Hicklin, age 80, of Sigourney, died Sunday, January 20, 2013, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney. Darlene was born August 5, 1932, in Sigourney, to Earl and Golda (Leininweaver) Hammond. She graduated from Sigourney High School in 1950 and attended AIB in Des Moines. Darlene lived in Runnells, where she worked for the Department of Human Services for several years before transferring to the Sigourney DHS office and returning to Sigourney. She retired in 1995. On August 6, 1995, Darlene married Charles Hicklin in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Darlene was a member of the Lancaster Christian Church and Aspasia Chapter #198 Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling and collecting glassware. Survivors include her husband: Charles of Sigourney and two cousins: Rose Smith of Whitehall, Montana and Anita Havig of Davenport. She was preceded in death by her parents. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Lancaster Christian Church in rural Sigourney, with Revs. Dave Matteson and Mark Doll officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Martinsburg. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, where there will be an Eastern Star service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Lancaster Heritage Association, Lancaster Christian Church or Aspasia Chapter #198 O.E.S.
