Dareld Wayne Stauffer, 83, of Wayland, IA, died Thursday, February 4, 2016, of natural causes. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 12th, at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with Pastor Nathan Luitjens officiating. Interment will be at Sugar Creek Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Central Plains Mennonite Conference, Quito Ecuador Partnership. Dareld was born in Milford, Nebraska, on February 25, 1932, to Vernon Stauffer and Lillie (Stutzman) Stauffer. He graduated from Wayland High School in 1950. Dareld married his high school sweetheart, Joannita Hirschy, on May 31, 1953, at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, where they both were lifelong members. He completed a term of 1W service in Indiana in the early 1950's. Dareld was a hardworking farmer, an electrician, and a devoted husband and father. He was very active in the life of his church, and greatly valued the friendships and support of his Sunday school classmates and friends, especially in his later years. Dareld's entertaining stories, his wit, and his love and knowledge of all things farming will be greatly missed. Survivors include his children, Michael (Julia) Alderfer Stauffer of Harrisonburg, VA, Ardell (Amy) Nissley Stauffer of Hesston, KS, Sonya (Roger) Stauffer Kurtz of Rochester, NY, Jo Helmuth of Goshen, IN, and Lieda (Tom) Stauffer High of Appleton, WI; ten grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Carol (Arliss) Swartzendruber of Denver, CO; and a brother-in-law, Ellis Leichty of Wayland, IA. Preceding him in death were his wife; parents; stepfather, Enos Lehman; sister, Phyllis Leichty; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Stauffer. The family would especially like to thank Sugar Creek Mennonite Church and the community of Wayland, IA, for their support during Dareld's illnesses.
