Danny A. Schlagel, 69, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, IA.Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Friday, July 15th, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. According to Danny's wishes his body has been cremated. There will be no funeral service at this time, however, there will be a flag presentation at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital and Henry County Saddle Club. Born July 19, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, IA, Danny Allen was the son of Wayne and Inez L. Taylor Schlagel. He was a 1964 graduate of Springville, IA, high school. Following high school, Danny enlisted in the United States Marines. He completed two tours in Viet Nam before being honorably discharged holding the rank of sergeant. On February 9, 1991, Danny married Sheri Butler Bagby in Mt. Pleasant, IA. Danny was a dialysis technician for Henry County Health Center, then worked at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center for 13 years, and was a paraoptometric technician at Complete Eye Care before retiring in 2010. A humble person, Danny was proud to have served his country as a Marine. He enjoyed nature and animals, and at one time he owned cows, horses, chickens, and dogs. For many years he was an avid San Francisco Giants' fan. Danny loved his children and grandchildren and was always in touch with them. Along with his wife, Sheri of twenty-five years, Danny is survived by four daughters, Bethany Schlagel of UT, Lauren Schlagel of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Ericka (Donald) Breuer of Burlington, IA, and Malinda Bagby of New London, IA; a son, Blaine (Lindsey) Bagby of Hooper, UT; and four sisters, Jean (Richard) Strausser of Cedar Rapids, IA, Linda Clemmons of Belle Plaine, IA, Diana (Archie) Schumacher of Center Point, IA, and Debra (Steve) Schutte of Hiawatha, IA. He is also survived by five grandchildren. Danny was preceded in death by his parents.
